Santos Party House became the backdrop for Raekwon's Album Release Party Tuesday night; which by the way was jam packed with celebrities, overflowing with media and swarmed by other supporters of the movement..

We arrived at or around 6pm, or I should say my videographer did, and prepared for the longest night ever. We came fully loaded with Hugo Da Boss, and photographer Teddy Lee. A glimpse of Isha Cole here, a glimpse of Ife Blount there, a good look at Ice-T, the media piling up on one side, patrons piling on the other all wanting in. I wanted In.. and from the whelps all around me, I could see everyone shared the emotion.
However, the Celebs?, ruled.
The stars paraded on the "purple" carpet while the Press climbed over, stepped on, even elbowed each other a bit.
It was super exciting for me to witness the rebirth of a nation (if you will). Or at least it felt that way.
I needed shots of everything, quotes from everyone, stills of whatever wind blew by. However, here we were relegated to the other side of the glass curtain. Yet realizing we were every bit a part of the show.  How cool is that?
I could only imagine what was going down inside. Did Puffy Show up? When is Raekwon coming. Who's performing now?
The Man of the Hour arrived flanked with his entourage. I kept thinking, this must feel nice. All in all, Raekwon's event went down in history. The energy was palpable and the Press didn't stop until we were made to.

Soulgee!, thanks for the invite.

Having released their “Best of 2009” list, Time Magazine has confirmed what music lovers, critics and observers have already been saying amongst themselves.  “Only Built For Cuban Linx Pt 2” is the best, most impactful Hip Hop album of 2009. Various music outlets all over the world have also RaekwonItsMyBirthdaydeclared the project their 2009 favorite. iTunes counted the September 8th release as one of its editor’s top picks and MTV included Raekwon in their famed and often controversial Hottest MCs list. Accomplishing what was sure to be an impossible feat, Raekwon was able to follow up the iconic, original 1995 offering, with a collection of work that was declared a classic before the album officially hit the stores.

With the music industry struggling to find its footing in this digital age, Raekwon and the LA based Cashmere Agency, masterfully formulated a viral assault that maximized the power and potential of the internet, as a direct marketing and promotional tool. With no pre-release radio or video support, the OBFCL Pt 2 viral approach confirmed non-traditional methods of album preparation.

Responding to the accolades, Raekwon stated, “My album is one that I give all the credit to the fans that supported it. They remind me constantly that to them, I’m the illest. Their constructive criticism allowed me to pay attention to my craft and the end result was this classic. I appreciate Time Magazine for recognizing my efforts and seeing the heart of a ghetto boy with a love for real music. Overall I embrace the support. Shout to the iTunes editors that counted me amongst their favorites and all the other Hip Hop sites all over the world that has declared this album to be the best. This is a great moment for my Ice H20 and EMI Family.

Raekwon is currently touring domestically and has recently signed Hip Hop group CNN, including them on the tour.
